Our history How did MountainRide
come about?
A brief summary
Geschichte Mountainride
November 2018

Casa Sansofé

After a month of piecework, we opened our biker house “Casa Sansofé” on November 4, 2018. Our dream was to create accommodation where both biker groups and solo travelers would feel equally at home.

With its 6 double rooms and biker-oriented furnishings, we think we have succeeded in doing just that 🙂

June 2019

Mountainride La Palma

In March 2019, the decision was made to found Mountainride La Palma. Andy grew up in this industry, so it was clear that, at this point of reorientation, we needed to get to grips with our ideas and plans.
We quickly settled on a name, chose a colour (RAL 4004, for those who want to know the exact shade) and, bit by bit, fitted out the shop premises beneath our Casa Sansofé.

The first bikes arrived after a short time and we started touring right from the start.

On June 8, 2019, we celebrated our grand opening and looked forward to our first season.

March 2019

Lockdown

“If you can read this, you’re not at home – #stayathome”

Our first season came to an end much quicker than expected. On March 15, Spain was sealed off and the last guests were flown out. It was necessary to rethink during a complete curfew.

July 2020

Technique training

As soon as the lockdown restrictions were eased and we were allowed to exercise outdoors again, we started running riding technique sessions for the locals.
Eager to get moving, we were met with a huge response from the local cross-country riders – a discipline that is particularly strong here on the island.

A step for us into the domestic market.

Winter season 2020/2021

Corona 2.0

In winter 2020/2021, it wasn’t easy to get to the island. With mandatory PCR testing and restricted air travel, you really had to want it. Fortunately, there were a few who took the trouble and usually just stayed longer.

A slightly different season 🙂

19.09.2021

Volcanic eruption

And then something happened that nobody had really expected: the earth opened up above the village of Todoque, on the western flank of the island, just 6 km from Los Llanos de Aridane.

Natural disaster and spectacle, frightening and fascinating, and above all destructive. In 85 days, the Tajogaite volcano completely wiped out Todoque and more than half of La Laguna.

While the population came to terms and looked to the future, tourism turned into sensational tourism, which was rather detrimental to the island.

To make it easier for our “regular” visitors to get here, we used to take the ferry to Tenerife once a week to meet you at the airport and accompany you to La Palma – the only reliable way to travel during the period of volcanic activity.
Thank you for your support!

Summer 2022

Store conversion

We are on La Palma all year round and are always ready for tours. However, as the last 3 seasons had given us quite a shake-up, it was time to restructure – also because we wanted to offer our local employees job security in the summer.

So in summer 2022, we took the next step and turned our touring center into a proper bike store. We rebuilt, stocked up on material for the XC and road bike sector and put a growing selection of sales bikes in the store. In addition, an employee was added who deals exclusively with sales and purchasing. Step by step, we made a name for ourselves in the local cycling world.

Winter season 2022/2023

Normality

“What else could possibly happen?” is a phrase we’ve been holding back since the volcanic eruption, if not before ;D
That made it all the more wonderful for us to be able to enjoy the winter of 2022/2023 with you, practically without any restrictions. Thanks to everyone who rocked and flowed the trails with us this season.

And don’t forget: We are here all year round, just get in touch, we are ready!

23.09.2023

Extension to the east side

The plan to extend to the east side with a store had been in place for a long time.

In August, the right opportunity arose: both Ivan from Tri-Ciclos in Santa Cruz de La Palma and Arley from Luque Bike in San Pedro decided to join forces under Mountainride and so we took over both stores. With Ivan, our talented salesman, and Arley, our passionate mechanic, we have the perfect team for our Santa Cruz branch, and a bike outlet opened in San Pedro on 23 October.

We are absolutely delighted to welcome this new addition to the team, who will be supporting us with their wealth of expertise!
